This might have been the highlight of the year in the NHL - the league’s first ever outdoor game at Commonwealth Stadium in front of 57,176 fans. League record for attendance of course. The game was DELAYED for 15 minutes to begin with since the ice sucked after the Megastars game (more about that at the end) so they made sure it was ready. Gretzky’s daughter Paulina did a very nice job singing I Will Remember You while we waited, then it was anthem time and the players were FREEZING already. Put it this way - to all you Americans out there, it was around -4F. *watches Anya freak over that number*

It took a while for the game to get going because of the cold and all that, but things picked up in the second period. The problem was that the puck was bouncing all over the place so teams had to change tactics. One guy went to block a shot (which you DON’T do in the cold) and nearly had his ankle snapped. Oh well. We played well despite being outshot - it was one of those games where Theo didn’t have to do that much work and couldn’t do anything on the shots that did go in. Zednik played well, Perreault got out of the doghouse… Mission complete as we finish the roadtrip with 5/10 points. Most of the fans stayed until the end which was great, but I’m sure a few smuggled in some firewater.

And as for the Megastars game, which was the greats of Montreal and Edmonton colliding…
