We're in Vancouver, for the
Canadian Cup! (Then, back to Mexico,
finally. Thank God.
:) )
[Canadian
Cup - First Round]:
Venum
II pinned Avispa after a flying cross body press in 0:07:42.
Rating:
1/2*
Not a good opener. Venum advances after a sloppy flying cross body.
[Canadian
Cup - First Round]:
Brazo
De Oro pinned Shiiba after a rana in 0:00:24.
Rating:
*
Shiiba tried to attack Oro
from behind before the bell, but got KO'ed
with an elbow. Match
was all but over after that.
[Canadian
Cup - First Round]:
Nygma
pinned Discovery with the Flying Splash in 0:08:31.
Rating:
1/4*
The flyer said Nygma vs.
Ludxor, but obviously, that can't happen,
since Ludxor would once
again aggravate his knee injury. So,
Discovery filled in, but
thanks to some interference from Picudo,
Nygma advanced.
[Canadian
Cup - First Round]:
Super
Crazzy pinned Super Nova II with the Crazzy Driver in 0:09:53.
Rating:
** 1/4
Nova put up a good fight, but Crazzy held on to take it.
[Canadian
Cup - First Round]:
Zumbido
defeated El Mosco by countout in 0:10:15.
Rating:
* 3/4
UPSET! Mosco had the
win, but Super Crazzy attacked him on the
outside, and hit him with
the Crazzy Driver on the concrete floor!!!
Zumbido won by countout,
and advances!
[Canadian
Cup - First Round]:
Magnum
Tokyo pinned Moto Cross with the AV Star Press in 0:17:43.
Rating:
****
Great match! Moto Cross
was a serious contender for Magnum Tokyo, as
these two put on the match
of the night! In the end, however, the
Viagra Driver/AV Star Press
combo put Moto away. Tokyo advances - but
he fought the longest match
so far in Round 1!
[Canadian
Cup - First Round]:
Angel
Mortal pinned Rey Dragon with the Power Bomb in 0:15:23.
Rating:
1/4*
Awful match. No idea
why it went 15 minutes. Zumbido distracted
Dragon, Mortal hit the Power
Bomb, three count, Rey's eliminated.
Simple.
[Canadian
Cup - First Round]:
Charly
Manson pinned Thunderbird with the Bullet Dropkick in 0:07:31.
Rating:
**
Finally, Manson had no problems
with Thunderbird, and took the win
with the Bullet Dropkick.
So, the Quarter-Finals look like this:
Venum
II vs. Brazo De Oro
Nygma
vs. Super Crazzy
Zumbido
vs. Magnum Tokyo
Angel
Mortal vs. Charly Manson
[Canadian
Cup - Quarter-Final]:
Brazo
De Oro pinned Venum II with the Frankensteiner in 0:08:56.
Rating:
**
Oro was well rested after
that east win in Round 1, and put Venum away
with the Missile Dropkick,
to advance to the Semis.
[Canadian
Cup - Quarter-Final]:
Super
Crazzy pinned Nygma with the Crazzy Driver in 0:11:05.
Rating:
** 3/4
Not bad at all. Crazzy
had to fend out Picudo as well, mind you, but
still hit Nygma with the
Crazzy Driver for the three count.
[Canadian
Cup - Quarter-Final]:
Magnum
Tokyo pinned Zumbido with the AV Star Press in 0:07:02. Zumbido
suffered
a neck injury. He will be out for 2 weeks. (Return date:
Sept.
12, 1999)
Rating:
**
OUCH! Zumbido took
a bad bump onto his head after a backdrop by
Tokyo, and was rolling around
in pain. Tokyo, not wanting to further
injure Zumbido, hit the
AV Star Press for the victory. After the
match, Zumbido was stretchered
out in a neckbrace, but the word is
that he'll only be gone
for a couple of weeks with a neck injury. We
wish him the best.
[Canadian
Cup - Quarter-Final]:
Charly
Manson pinned Angel Mortal after an Asai moonsault in 0:08:06.
Rating:
*
Another awful match from
Mortal. Manson missed the Bullet Dropkick,
but followed up with an
Asai moonsault for the pin.
The Semi-Final Round looks like this:
Brazo
De Oro vs. Super Crazzy
Magnum
Tokyo vs. Charly Manson
[Canadian
Cup - Semi-Final]:
Super
Crazzy pinned Brazo De Oro with the Crazzy Driver in 0:08:57.
Rating:
*** 1/4
Good match. Back-and-forth
action, until the Crazzy Driver finished
this one in under nine minutes.
Crazzy will face...
[Canadian
Cup - Semi-Final]:
Magnum
Tokyo pinned Charly Manson after a German suplex in 0:02:16.
Rating:
1/2*
...MAGNUM TOKYO!!!
Manson tried, but Tokyo was on fire here, and
manage to pin Manson in
just over two minutes!
[Canadian
Cup - Final]: Two-out-of-three-Falls Match:
Magnum
Tokyo beat Super Crazzy 2 falls to 0:
x
M. Tokyo beat Crazzy via an Asai moonsault in 0:11:27
x
M. Tokyo beat Crazzy via a small package in 0:19:20
Rating:
*** 3/4
Second-best match of the
night. Tokyo was still on fire, and after
some good matwork, he managed
to hit Crazzy with two Asai moonsaults,
then got the pin.
However, Crazzy fauled Tokyo before the second fall
started, and dominated the
youngster with some fantastic moves. He
hit the Crazzy Driver...
BUT TOKYO PUT HIS FEET ON THE ROPES!!!
Crazzy argued with Tropicasas
over the call, but Tokyo rolled him up
from behind... AND
GOT THE PIN!!! MAGNUM TOKYO WINS THE CUP!!!
Notes:
- Not much to report, actually.
AAA is not actively seeking new
talent via free agency until
Verano, most likely.
- Aguila and Pantera will
be returning to AAA in a few weeks, it
seems.
- Heavy Metal and Mini Mosco De La Merced both resigned.
